Land Management Initiatives

Landscape, drystone wall in foreground
The Land Management Initiatives (LMIs) considered issues facing arable, lowland pastoral, upland and wetland farming systems. Each initiative worked closely with the farming community and other interest groups to respond to the changing pressures facing agriculture. By the end of 2004 all the LMIs were drawn to a close.

Lessons learnt from the LMIs are being used to inform our policy thinking and contribute to more effective land management policies and practices across England to ensure a healthy environment, and contribute to thriving rural economies and communities.  Research reports produced by the LMIs are available on the LMI Database.
