Matters arising from the 33rd meeting of the Countryside Agency
NEW NATIONAL PARKS
The New Forest National Park public inquiry ended on the 10 April and will have cost the Agency £1.2 million. We expect a final announcement by the Secretary of State in spring 2004. Defra received over 5500 representations and objections to the South Downs National Park Designation Order. This included many letters of support and the majority of objections to the boundary have been to include more land within the boundary. Six local authorities have objected in principle, one has made a “tactical” objection covering administration. The South Downs National park Inquiry is to be announced before Easter and will start this November, with a pre-inquiry meeting in early July. The inquiry is likely to cost the Agency in the region of £2.5 million.
