Main issues to concern the Board: - The Board need to agree that Martin Davis is a suitable person to be a Trustee
|
- The Countryside Trust was set up as a charitable Trust in 1990, with a large legacy left to The Countryside Commission by Dr Marjorie Broadbent. The Trust deed gives The Countryside Agency as successor to The Commission the responsibility of appointing the Trustees. The Chairman and Chief Executive are automatically appointed as Trustees and the practice for the past ten years has been for one other Trustee to be appointed.
- Appointment of New Trustee
- This position has been occupied since the creation of The Trust by John Evans, a lawyer who was originally also a member of The Countryside Commission. Mr Evans has informed the Trust that he intends to retire from the position of Trustee at the end of his current term, which is March 2002.
- The Trustees feel it would be helpful to replace Mr Evans with another Trustee with legal expertise. Martin Davis is a local solicitor and has indicated that he would be prepared to serve as a Trustee. Until recently he was Vice-Chairman of the Gloucestershire Branch of the CPRE and has a keen interest in the countryside. He has been a Trustee of The Summerfield Trust and so is well aware of the responsibilities and duties of charitable bodies.
- Mr Davis is based in Cheltenham, which would minimise his travel expenses and time spent attending meetings of The Trust.
- The appointment would be for three years, when it can be renewed with the agreement of The Countryside Agency Board
- The Board is recommended to approve the appointment of Martin Davis as a Trustee of The Countryside Trust.
