4.  Implementing the Rural Strategy – March     AP05/11 (62kb word)

Progress continues to be made on implementation of the Rural Strategy.   The Board is asked to note updates on the Commission for Rural Communities, Landscape, Access and Recreation (Confederation), an integrated agency, Evaluating, Disseminating and Mainstreaming work, and Modernising Rural Delivery and Legislation.

5.  Board Members – Performance Appraisal, Development and Induction    AP05/12 (51kb word)

In November 2004 Board members discussed their performance management, including their appraisal, induction, development needs and training.   This paper recommends that the Board adopts the internally developed appraisal system and tools; asks for the Board’s agreement on the letting of a contract to develop and deliver the appraisal of the whole Board; and their agreement on adoption of the proposed checklist for induction.

7.  The Countryside Agency and the Voluntary and Community Sector Compact    AP05/14 (86kb word)

The ‘Compact’ is the agreement signed in 1998 between the Government and the Voluntary and Community Sector.   This paper reviews the operation of the Compact between the Countryside Agency and the Rural Community Councils and sets out a new approach to, and adoption of, Compact principles for the Countryside Agency in 2005/06.   The Board is asked to note the review conclusions; the plans to ensure the Compact is compliant across the breadth of the Agency’s work; and to note the update the Board will receive on actions in July 2005 and an annual report in 2006.
