Marketing products from conservation grazing
Now available, report from the Protected Areas Branding Forum organised by Eat the View and the Cotswold Conservation Board considering the marketing and branding of products from conservation grazing. Speakers included Alan Slade, Head of Livestock Products, Defra, Dan Weston, Rural Regeneration Cumbria, and Robert Deane of Land Use Consultants. Local and regional food in Europe
Report from the European Conference on Local and Regional Food, 27-28 September 2005 in Lerum, Sweden. The aim of the event was to provide a forum to discuss the future of local and regional food in Europe. Speakers included Carlo Petrini, Slow Food, Simon Johnson, Defra, UK, and Ann-Christin Nyqvist, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Sweden. Double Dividend: good nutrition and sustainable consumption through school meals
Report by the Sustainable Consumption Roundtable promoting good nutrition and sustainable consumption through healthy school meals. It makes several key recommendations for improving the sustainability of school meals, including using seasonal menus, local food suppliers and serving less, but better quality meat.
Organic consumers
Market research by Taylor Nelson/Sofres of 15,000 households in its Food and Farming 2005 report found more households are buying organic food more frequently and spending more each time. It found that 7% of organic buyers account for 57% of all the money spent on organics in a year.
3663 to offer regional food
From January, food service supplier 3663, which is the largest supplier of food to the catering sector, is to offer a range of regional foods to customers. At first, only food from East Anglia and South East England will feature in the initiative, but, if successful, other areas will follow. Source: Farmers Weekly.
