By 31st October 2005, all the newly mapped access land across the yorkshire and Humber region woll be open and the public will be able to roam freely without the need to stick to paths.  

Open Access in Yorkshire and the Humber

From 31st October 2005 all the newly mapped access land across the Yorkshire and Humber region is open and the public can roam freely without the need to stick to paths. The Yorkshire and Humber Region falls within four separate areas:

Area 2: LOWER NORTH WEST
Area of region covered by map - Calderdale, Kirklees, Bradford and part of the Craven district.

Area 4: UPPER NORTH WEST
Area of region covered by map - part of North Yorkshire (including Harrogate, Richmond and the part of Craven district that lies within the Yorkshire Dales National Park)

Area 5: NORTH EAST
Area of region covered by map - Hambleton, Ryedale and Scarborough in North Yorkshire

Area 8: EAST
Area of region covered by map - York, leeds, Wakefield, East Riding of Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire

Maps showing which land is covered by the new access right can be viewed at www.openaccess.gov.uk  These maps also show areas which have restrictions for nature conservation, land management or public saftey reasons.
