Walking the Way to Health in Yorkshire and the Humber

Walking the way to Health Initiative

At least seven in ten people do not take enough exercise to benefit their health, some doctors call this the ‘silent epidemic’. The WHI initiative aims to get more people walking, especially people who take little exercise or live in areas of poor health.

There are 25 different Walking the way to Health schemes spread across Yorkshire and The Humber with each scheme having a slightly different approach in encouraging people to get out and walk.  The WHI scheme offers the following services:

  • Updates – to keep everyone informed of the latest thnking
  • Training – so that people have the right skills and knowledge
  • Insurance – to cover each scheme should anything go wrong
  • Accreditation – to provide national recognition for quality schemes.

Walking the way to Health is a joint initiative of the British Heart Foundation and Natural England.
