National Trails

The South West contains two complete trails, plus parts of three others:
- The 'South West Coast Path' - which traces the West Country’s dramatic coastline from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset. Over 1,000km (630 miles), this is the country’s longest Trail and arguably its finest.
- The 'Cotswold Way' - (currently being established to national trail standards with an official launch due in May 2007), follows the escarpment of the Cotswold Hills for 162km (102 miles) from the World Heritage City of Bath to Chipping Camden.
Parts of Offa’s Dyke Path, Ridgeway and the Thames Path. Click here for details of these and the wider family of National Trails in England & Wales
Established and largely funded by Natural England, National Trails are the flagship of the rights of way network. Easily recognised by the acorn symbol, these routes offer a quality experience for locals and visitors alike, whether for a short walk or a more strenuous hike.
National Trail Officers, appointed for each route, work in partnership with local authorities and landowners to co-ordinate management to common quality standards. For the South West, contact details are:
