Landscape

'Landscape means an area, as perceived by people, whose character is the result of the action and interaction of natural and/or human factors' - European Landscape Convention definition

Landscapes help define us as a nation and the value we place upon our finest countryside is demonstrated by the public's desire to protect and enhance them through National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Sustainable land management is fundamental to enhancing our landscapes. The Agency provides support to Defra and others by showing what works in our land management intiatives and developing the evidence base to underpin policy.
