Croal Irwell Regional Park

The Countryside Agency - now Natural England - co-funded the development of a vision for the proposed Croal Irwell regional park which reinforces green space links from the centre of Salford out to the urban fringes and countryside of the northern Greater Manchester area.

The regional park proposals, prepared by the Red Rose Forest and the local authorities of Salford, Bolton and Bury, are distinguished by their proximity to urban populations.

The Croal Irwell regional park has the potential to act as a lynchpin between a number of important existing strategies and programmes for social and environmental regeneration.  It was felt that an overarching vision would ensure the necessary coordination and integration across this large-scale area.
