The countryside character of the region is diverse and a vital asset to many activities in the region. Sustainable land management is fundamental to enhancing our landscapes. Natural England aims to show how land can be managed to conserve the environment at the same time as meeting the needs of farmers, businesses and local communities.

England's finest countryside has been designated as national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty as these landscapes deserve special protection. We want to see first class management in these areas. Development will be needed in the countryside, but it needs to be of the highest standard.
