Planning

Our Planning work has a clear aim of establishing the principles necessary for the planning system to deliver sustainable development in the countryside and ensuring that those principles are embedded in policy and practice.

We work through influencing the plans, policies and decisions of others and by developing innovative tools and techniques:

  • with government departments for planning legislation and national policy;
  • with regional bodies and partnerships;
  • with a range of planning authorities and other organisations at the local level.

We achieve our influence through:

  • direct discussion with partners;
  • seminars and briefings;
  • research and policy development;
  • experimental and demonstration projects;
  • involvement in numerous plans and strategies.

East Midlands Planning Work
Our recent planning work in the East Midlands has included influencing the content of the Regional Planning Guidance (RPG8) and commenting upon many of the regions development plans at various stages of their preparation.

We are also actively involved in commenting on the Milton Keynes South Midlands study and exploring opportunities for influencing the way in which development in this growth area proceeds, by offering examples of best practice and promoting the use of our planning tools and techniques.

Through our New Vernacular initiative we are working to promote high quality sustainably designed and constructed development. The attached link http://www.sdg-nottinghamshire.org.uk/ takes you to Nottinghamshire County Council's Sustainable Developer Guide which we consider a case study of reigonal best practice in helping to raise the overall quality of development in Nottinghamshire. It contains useful and helpful information initself together with good linkages to other web sites promoting best practice across a range of development issues.
