Open Access
Within the West Midlands walkers gained new rights of access over uncultivated upland areas, heathland and commons through the Countryside and Rights of Way Act (CROW) in October 2005.
The main area affected by the new Act are parts of the Staffordshire Moorlands, Shropshire Hills, the Black Mountains in Herefordshire (uplands) and Cannock Chase, Staffordshire;(heathland).
There are also 541 commons covering some 11,000 hectares in the region to which people have access. Over 70% of the common land is located within the west of the region. The Agency's office in Birmingham currently holds maps of the whole region showing all areas of new access land.
Alternatively visit the Countryside Access website, the official website for maps of Open Access land in England and the Countryside Code.
