Vulnerability Mapping – Creating a Sustainable Byways Network

Natural England has commissioned the development of a methodology that will help it assess the sustainability of routes in the context of their surroundings and place in the network.

Although initially aimed at the creation of a sustainable byways network, the methodology can be used on routes of any status.   Natural England will use the methodology to assess routes before giving advice to local authorities and others on the impact of routes and whether management options need to be explored.

The methodology, case study looking at its application in the North Pennines can be downloaded below.
