About the National Countryside Access Forum
The National Countryside Access Forum (NCAF) was a non-statutory body which reported to and advised the Countryside Agency.
Its primary purpose was to advise on the development of policy and procedures to help the Countryside Agency in implementing the Government’s Framework for action on access to the countryside, (March 1999).
The Countryside Agency provided NCAF’s secretariat and chair (who was the Deputy Chair of the Countryside Agency). NCAF’s 16 members included 12 representatives of interested organisations and 4 independent members with appropriate experience. The membership was balanced to avoid dominance by any single interest group.
Scotland and Wales have their own access forums, run respectively by Scottish Natural Heritage and the Countryside Council for Wales.
