What should a Greenways Strategy include? What time period should one cover?
The experience of the Greenways demonstration projects varied, but all agreed on the value of having a Strategy with key objectives agreed with the community and local elected members and linked to potential sources of funding. A period for the Strategy and associated Action Plan of 5 - 10 years is recommended.

How do I get Greenways included in the Local/Structure/Unitary Plan?
It is vital to involve development control officers and strategic planners in any Greenways project. The best way to do this is to involve them in the Steering Group, but this is not always feasible, so they need to be kept informed. It is also important for the Greenways partnership to be able to input into the consultation process for such plans.

How do I get Greenways included in the Local Transport Plan?
This is especially useful, as it can bring in funds for implementation and maintenance. The Demonstration Projects found that it was vital to include a Transport Officer or Transport Planner in their Steering Group.

It is important to input into these plans and their reviews at the relevant stages (another reason why having a Transport Officer/Planner on board is very useful).

Inclusion in LTPs also brings Greenways a higher profile and recognition.
