Project Champion
The six Greenways demonstration projects found value in a key individual to take the lead in promoting the vision for a local Greenway.
The difference between a "project champion" and a "project officer"
is that a project champion is seen to have a more promotional,
influencing role. They are often, but not always, local authority
elected members. Sometimes they are a non-political figure, such as
a senior officer. Project champions have played a vital role in
helping Greenways gain support from the decision makers
involved.
Where there was a lack of an overall vision, this conceptual difficulty meant it was difficult to get a project champion. Political upheaval and organisational change also made it more difficult to find and keep a project champion.
