The history and work of the Diversity Review
The Countryside Agency started work on the Diversity Review in 2002. The review finished in 2006 with the launch of the Diversity Action Plan consultation.
Defra’s Rural Strategy Rural Strategy 2004 (July 2004) confirmed and clarified the work by stating that:
(We) will…put an action plan on diversity in place in 2005/06 in the light of the Countryside Agency’s Diversity Review findings to enable more people from diverse backgrounds to make informed choices about taking up recreation opportunities in the countryside.
The Diversity Review is comprised of the following:
- Research
The research has covered the needs and perceptions of under-represented groups and the awareness amongst outdoor recreation providers of those needs. 'What About Us' parts 1 and 2 summarisies both. We are now investigating the economic case for increasing the diversity of people accessing outdoor recreation in England. - Action Research Projects
Four Action Research Projects (ARPs) ran from 2004 until 2007. They were testing 'tools' or approaches to increasing access to the countryside, and participation in countryside activities, for people and groups who are under-represented. - Evaluation
An evaluation framework and accompanying toolkit has been produced which provides an overview of evaluation, based on current good practice.
