Management arrangements in East Devon AONB
A Joint Advisory Group exists to co-ordinate the preparation of the Management Plan, provide a means of exchanging ideas and information between agencies, and consider an appropriate management framework for the future implementation of policies within the Plan.
In 2004, the AONB Unit published an AONB Management Plan on behalf of its constituent local authorities.
Statutory policies
Provision is made for the AONB in the Devon County Structure Plan Third Alteration which states that 'in designated National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the preservation and enhancement of the landscape will be given priority over other considerations in the determination of development proposals.' Applications for mineral working, tipping and associated activities and extensions to existing quarries affecting AONBs will also be subject to the most rigorous examination.
District Council adopted local plans make reference to AONBs and support structure plan policies. The district-wide local plan gives priority to the conservation of the natural beauty of the landscape over other considerations within the AONB.
Other AONB publications
A Landscape Assessment (CCP 442, £8.00), Heathland Biodiversity Action Plan, an AONB Education Pack and Heathland Education Pack have all been published by East Devon District Council and its project partners.
