Useful guidance from other organisations
The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has produced guidance relevant to three of those functions as part of their 'By Design' series.
Sustainable Energy By Design (3mb pdf):
This document is relevant to the 'Recycling and Renewable Energy Centre' and 'Place for Sustainable Living' functions. It aims to provide local authorities, developers and other public and private decision makers with a clear and informative guide to integrating sustainable energy into the planning, design and development of new and existing communities.
Biodiversity By Design (2mb pdf):
This guide is relevant to the 'Nature Reserve' function. The document aims to provide guidance on how to maximise the opportunities for biodiversity in the planning and design of sustainable communities.
The TCPA have launched an on-line Biodiversity by design resource based on this document.
The Countryside In and Around Towns: A collection and overview of research findings, facts, figures and commentaries (257kb word) (257kb word):
The Countryside Agency - now Natural England - commissioned a suite of research reports which provide an extensive and contemporary insight into the nature and potential of an environment that for many years has been largely overlooked by researchers.
The document is designed to:
- Complement that suite of reports by presenting brief summaries of the issues identified by the research
- Gather together some useful expert commentaries, facts, figures and other material that might help policy makers and practitioners to make the case for action for their local CIAT.
