The Working Group

The Working Group will include senior representatives from health, environment, planning and government and will work together to promote synergy and demonstrate links between Health and Well Being and the Green Environment

The aims of the Working Group are to:

  • Promote synergy between the Health and Well Being and the Green Environment Agendas in Thames Gateway
  • Demonstrate links between Health & Well Being and the Green Environment Agendas in Thames Gateway  

The expected outcomes will enable:

1. The promotion of the positive connections between Health, Well Being and the Green Environment, which are evident at all levels in the development of Thames Gateway. These have been identified with the use of:  

  • Three regional spatial strategies – East of England, South East, London plan 
  • Sub regional strategic framework for Thames Gateway
  • Local Development
  • Action Plans  

2.  Increased dialogue between planners, health and green space professionals.

3.  Senior managers and planners in Thames Gateway to actively promote healthy environments and how to create them. In particular :

  • Policies and plans within Thames Gateway are to be reviewed to take account of the links between Health and the Green Environment, so that all projects have a Health and Green Environment aspect included
  • The London Plan, through its Review, is influenced to include the Health and Green Environment agenda  

4.  Architects, designers and landscape architects to understand more about how to create multifunctional healthy environments when creating green space.

5.  Joint projects, linking Health and the Green Environment to take place utlising the evidence for the positive links between Health & Well Being and the Green Environment that has been demonstrated in Thames Gateway. 

6.  Promotion of the opportunities for improving lifestyles using the Green Gateway and Green Infrastructure through healthy nutrition, accessibility and exercise and addressing both mental and physical health.

7.  The health commissioning process within Thames Gateway to take into account the Green Environment as a resource for health.  

8.  Spending to be redirected from sickness management to prevention through the use of Green Environments.

The membership of the subgroup is to include senior representatives from health, environment, planning and government.
